#2016 - Daniel Eriksen
Wednesday Jan 27, 2016
Wednesday Jan 27, 2016
Despite its humble and mercurial origins in the deep Delta, blues music was destined to become an international art form. Need proof? Survey the crowds walking up and down Beale Street this week for the Blues Foundation's annual International Blues Challenge. Or, check out our programming over the last couple of seasons and you'll see the strong international presence. This week we add Norwegian blues star Daniel Eriksen to that list. We captured this performance smack dab in the heart of the delta with the banks of the Mississippi River serving as our backdrop.

#2015 - Remembering Otis Clay
Wednesday Jan 20, 2016
Wednesday Jan 20, 2016
BSC lost a longtime friend when soul music great Otis Clay passed away on January 8th. Otis began his career in Mississippi performing in gospel groups, but fate brought him to Memphis where he rose to prominence behind R&B hits such as "Trying to Live my Life Without You" and "All Because of Your Love," each of those songs birthed through the production genius of Memphis' Willie Mitchell and the Hi Records Rhythm Section. This week's program was originally scheduled to air in February, but with Clay's passing, we felt an urgency to release it now in his memory. Otis Clay was a great friend to

#2014 - Leo "Bud" Welch and Cadillac John Nolden
Wednesday Jan 13, 2016
Wednesday Jan 13, 2016
The prevailing stories would lead us to believe that all the great bluesmen hopped trains out of the Delta, landing in Memphis and Chicago to launch their careers, but that's not really the case. Countless artists remained to provide the soundtrack for life in the Delta. Artists made their careers in the churches, the juke joints, the picnics, and the house parties. We have two such artists with us as octogenarians Cadillac John Nolden and Leo "Bud" Welch bring their authentic, foot-stomping sounds to the airwaves this week.
Wednesday Dec 16, 2015

#2007 - Bobby Rush
Wednesday Nov 18, 2015
Wednesday Nov 18, 2015
There's only one Bobby Rush. Honed and refined (or unrefined, depending on your point of view) through decades on the Chitlin' Circuit, his self-described "folk-funk" act has become a headlining attraction at festivals and events around the world. But this week we've got something a little different - Bobby Rush, stripped down and raw, backed only by Super Chikan on guitar, and singing his hits and telling the stories behind the songs. Bobby has a career-spanning box set titled Chicken Heads: A 50 Year History Of Bobby Rush coming out on November 27, on Omnivore Recordings. BSC contributor John Paul Keith will also be joining us to continue his series, Made In Memphis.

#2004 - Kingfish
Wednesday Oct 28, 2015
Wednesday Oct 28, 2015
He's just 16 years old, y'all. It's incredible. Yes, he's toured over in Europe and played for the Obama family at the White House, but tonight his loving mother sits on the front row, as she always does, and makes sure the show doesn't run over. Why? Because Christone "Kingfish" Ingram has to get up and go to school the next day just like any other 16 year old. We're excited to feature Kingfish on BSC and we have a feeling that he's got a long career in music ahead of him. Also joining us is recording artist John Paul Keith as he continues our Made In Memphis segment which takes a look at the behind the scenes stories of hit songs crafted in the Bluff City.

A couple of days before his unexpected passing, John Fry, a longtime supporter and source of inspiration for BSC, had called up post-producer Adam Hill and in their conversation jokingly mentioned how great it would be to hear the Big Star show again during our re-broadcasts over the holidays. So as we step into this new year, it seems a fitting thing today to remember those who won't be making this leg of the journey with us.
