This week on Beale Street Caravan we’ve got one of the newest, most exciting groups on the Memphis scene, Black Cream. The band joined together two years ago. The four members Derek, T.O., Courtney and Chris are Memphis natives with years of experience backing others and playing solo. Black Cream combine melodious vocals over power trio instrumentation for a sound that is as edgy as it is soulful. They released their first single, “All I Need Is You,” earlier this year. Beginning as a youngster in the Rising Star Fife and Drum band with Otha Turner, Boyce is often noted as a protege of blues icon and fellow Como-native Mississippi Fred McDowell. In 2017, his album “Roll and Tumble” was nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Traditional Blues Album. Listen to R. This week on Beale Street Caravan we feature Scott Sharrard as he marks the release of his new studio effort, Saving Grace. Produced in Memphis, TN and in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Saving Grace has Scott backed by legendary studio musicians from each city, including Memphis’ own Hi Rhythm section. We’ll hear Scott along with Rev. Charles Hodges in a performance captured at Railgarten, smack dab in the middle of Midtown Memphis. Later in the program we get to sit down and catch up with Scott.

Barbara has a brand new record out titled, Fish in Dirty H20, which features an a-list of musical talent. We’ll hear her in a performance captured at Silky O’Sullivan’s, right on the corner of Beale Street and BB King Blvd. Later in the program we talk with Barbara about the album, and about working on the street and in the clubs where blues music was born.
