The band is led by trumpeter Paul McKinney, whose smooth jazz style is inspired by the likes of George Duke, Miles Davis and Memphis’ own Kirk Whalum. When not leading the band, Paul serves as Instrumental Music Director and Jazz Studies Coordinator at the Stax Music Academy here in Memphis, helping to guide students on their own musical journeys.

Now in its 22nd year, Beale Street Caravan brings the Sounds of Memphis to a weekly international public radio audience. Live, concert performances from contemporary masters of blues, soul, and rock n roll traditions. The program is hosted by Pat Mitchell-Worley and Kevin Cubbins, with feature segments from industry insiders such as Jerry Wexler, Bob Porter, and Robert Gordon. Forty original programs are produced each season, allowing for 12 repeats. The program is available free of charge. Beale Street Caravan is also distributed via PRSS and NPR Worldwide.

The BMAs always kick off the night before with the induction ceremony for the Blues Hall of Fame, also broadcast on Beale Street Caravan. On this week’s episode, we have highlights from the awards program including performances from Bobby Rush, Eric Gales, William Bell, and many more.

#2333 - Black Cream

This week on Beale Street Caravan we’ve got one of the newest, most exciting groups on the Memphis scene, Black Cream. The band joined together two years ago. The four members Derek, T.O., Courtney and Chris are Memphis natives with years of experience backing others and playing solo. Black Cream combine melodious vocals over power trio instrumentation for a sound that is as edgy as it is soulful. They released their first single, “All I Need Is You,” earlier this year. #2332 - 2019 International Blues Challenge Finals

This week on Beale Street Caravan we have the Finals of the 2019 International Blues Challenge. For 35 years, blues societies from all over the world have been sending their champions to Memphis to represent on Beale Street, making the IBC the biggest week in blues. First on the show, we’ll hear from the runner ups, then, in the 2nd half of the show, we’ll hear the winner of the solo/duo category, and the winner of the band category.

#2331 - R. L. Boyce's Birthday Picnic

This week on Beale Street Caravan we have hill country blues torch-bearer R. L. Boyce at his 2nd Annual Birthday Picnic in Como, Mississippi. Beginning as a youngster in the Rising Star Fife and Drum band with Otha Turner, Boyce is often noted as a protege of blues icon and fellow Como-native Mississippi Fred McDowell. In 2017, his album “Roll and Tumble” was nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Traditional Blues Album. Listen to R. This week on Beale Street Caravan we have country bad boy Dale Watson. Watson is fresh off the release of February’s “Call Me Lucky,” an album he cut for Red House Records. #2327 - Sheba Potts-Wright

This week on Beale Street Caravan we have longtime Ecko Records artist and southern soul dynamo, Sheba Potts-Wright in a performance at the historic Club Paradise. Raised on the touring circuit by her father, Beale Street harp legend Dr. Robert “Feelgood” Potts, Sheba has a sound that blends some of the best elements of the blues.

This week on Beale Street Caravan we feature rock ‘n’ rollers, Low Cut Connie. Led by front man Adam Weiner, the band has released two studio efforts since their last appearance on the program: Dirty Pictures Part 1 and Dirty Pictures Part 2.
